Political Prisoner: Film Director Jafar Panahi

On December 20th 2010, outstanding and award winning Iranian film maker, Jafar Panahi, was sentenced by the Islamic Republic Revolutionary Court to six years imprisonment and twenty years ban from film making, writing, giving interviews and traveling abroad. Prior to the sentence, in July of 2009, Jafar Panahi had been arrested along with mourners at the grave site of Neda Agha Soltan, a martyr of the crushed post election uprising. Panahi was released after the confiscation of his passport, but later rearrested at his home in March of 2010 and taken to Evin prison along with his wife and daughter. His family members were released two days later but Panahi was kept in appalling conditions, mistreated and psychologically tortured. Subsequently on May 18th 2010 Panahi went on a hunger strike, forcing Evin prison officials to release him on (US)$200,000 bail one week after the start of his hunger strike.

Today Jafar Panahi, one of Iran's best film makers, is locked behind the doors of one of Islamic Republic's most notorious prisons and torture factories. An artist whose talents were recognized at an age of ten years old. Awarded at international film festivals such as Cannes Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Venice Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival. Today Jafar Panahi is forced into silence, caged and treated as a criminal for simply thinking differently than the governing Islamic establishment. His only crime was to have openly mourned the death of one of the scores of martyrs of the 2009 Islamic Republic elections. It is noteworthy to mention that on the same date Panahi was sentenced another film maker by the name of Mohammad Rasoulof was also sentenced to six years imprisonment for assembly, collusion, and propagandizing against the regime.

In the early days of the Islamic revolution, persecution of artists, actors, musicians and authors were common place, the revolutionary regime was so audacious that summons in the form of long lists were printed in daily newspapers. It has become known today, several of Iran's best artists were raped in custody. The regime was beginning a Stalinist purge of the artistic community by completely stopping every mode of expression and communication. Later the Islamic intelligence ministry (VEVAK) began its involvement in the production of films. Its film office at Ministry of Culture and Guidance regulated all aspects of arts and kept an eye on every artist. The intelligence ministry became highly involved in the writing and editing of film scripts for domestic consumption. At the same time it opened the hands of certain few film makers to produce films solely suited to the international market, to export an image of the Islamic republic as a haven for free artistic expression, when domestic films were infested with poisonous undertones, disseminating the ideology of a sickly apparatus, trying to brainwash a new generation through their perceived control of artistic expression and media.

It is a fact today that Islamic republic has failed in its war against artistic expression and control of media. Evidenced by massive dissent at every generation, desire for freedom is much stronger than the control any government can muster.

Hezbollah of Lebanon helping regime kill protesters in Iran

The bearded man pictured above in a green shirt holding a walkie-talkie, patrolling the streets of Tehran is Hezbollah of Lebanon's Hussein Monif Ashmar a leading operational member of the terror group with responsibilities including organizing suicide attacks. His photo was identified by a now exiled former member of Quds force: Amir Farshad Ebrahimi.

Further, Alireza Meybodi a leading commentator on exile opposition radio KRSI and Pars TV has reported, protesters have captured, identified and released Arabic speaking suppression members from the following countries: Somalia, Sudan, Oman, Syria, Yemen and Palestinians. Earlier in the upheaval Meybodi had reported the landing of three aircraft originating in Lebanon at Mahshahr Airport with Lebanese and Palestinian militias. He also reported students' eyewitness reports from Babol university, surrounded by armed Arabic speakers with no or little knowledge of the Persian language. In addition Meybodi reports the use of a Venezuelan security outfit sent recently by Hugo Chavez to protect Ahmadinejad and Khamenei since they no longer trust Iranian security personnel. Interestingly in the broadcast debates before the upheaval, Mehdi Karoubi had been puzzled by the amount of aid Ahmadinejad had sent to Hugo Chavez, he asked Ahmadinejad: "Please tell me what has Iran gained in return for all the aid and all your visits to Venezuela"

Usually in foreign policy circles the use or entering of foreign troops into any land signals a greater strife, and usually heralds war. This information is in the least disturbing, Iran's sovereignty has been compromised, and will cause a dangerous imbalance in the geopolitics of the middle east. The use of Palestinians goes back to before the 1979 revolution when Yasser Arafat had flown militias to help in the street killings of the Islamic revolution. Arafat received billions of dollars from Khomeini after the victory of the Islamic revolution.

Will governments of the world stand by while the people of Iran are massacred and crushed into subservient domination by world terror.

Dr. Ebrahim Yazdi, now in the USA and getting ready to speak at a Columbia University forum this Friday March 28th 2008, has refused to speak to Voice of America's Persian news service. In response to the offer Yazdi has written an attack pointed at VOA in the daily Ettemad (questionable name) which is transcribed below:

مطلب زير نوشته ابراهيم يزدي خطاب به گردانندگان صداي امريکا است که آن را در نقد برنامه هاي اين شبکه خبري نوشته است. ابراهيم يزدي اکنون در امريکا به سر مي برد و نقد خود را که بخش اعظم آن چاپ شده است، پس از آن نوشت که حاضر به مصاحبه با اين رسانه خبري نشد.

متاسفانه شيوه اطلاع رساني تلويزيون صداي امريکا از محدوده تعاريف پذيرفته شده براي يک رسانه خبري خارج شده است. بنابر استانداردهاي رايج اطلاع رساني، شأن يک رسانه خبري، حفظ بي طرفي در انتقال و پخش مطالب و اخبار است که با رفتار رسانه ارگان يک حزب سياسي - ايدئولوژيک تفاوت دارد.

در مقام پاسخگويي ممکن است استدلال شود که «صداي امريکا» رسانه دولت امريکا است و با بودجه آن دولت، اداره مي شود و سياست هاي دولت امريکا تلاشي در راستاي پنهان سازي مخالفت و ضديت خود با انقلاب اسلامي و جمهوري اسلامي ايران ندارد و صداي امريکا لاجرم رسانه يي است با اولويت هاي معين در راستاي نظرات و برنامه هاي دولت امريکا و غير از اين هم نبايد انتظار داشت. در پاسخ به اين ايراد بايد گفت که آيا دولت امريکا علاوه بر خصومت با نظام جمهوري اسلامي ايران، اصراري دارد که سياست هاي خود را در تعارض با باورهاي عمومي و منافع ملي ملت شريف ايران نيز معرفي کند؟ ما حداقل در دو محور زير، سياستگذاري حاکم بر دولت امريکا و رسانه تلويزيون صداي امريکا را در تعارض با منافع ملي ايران ارزيابي مي کنيم؛

نخست؛ اسلام ستيزي

استفاده از امکانات رسانه يي و ميدان دادن به کساني که به باورها و اعتقادات ميليون ها ايراني توهين مي کنند، مساله قابل پذيرشي نيست. من هيچ گاه در شأن انساني و در چارچوب باورهاي ديني خود نمي يابم که درباره باورهاي ديني شما و همکاران تان تفتيش کنم. بنابر بديهي ترين اصول مندرج در اعلاميه جهاني حقوق بشر، هر کس در انتخاب دين و راه و روش زندگي اش آزاد است، از سوي ديگر نيز، مباني انديشه دموکراتيک، ما را به پذيرش اين اصل متعهد مي سازد که هيچ کس حق ندارد به بهانه اختلافات فکري و سياسي فردي، گروهي يا بين دولتي، به باورها و اعتقادات ديگران توهين روا دارد، مضافاً آنکه کساني که مورد توهين واقع مي شوند، اکثريت مطلق جمعيت کشوري با سابقه تمدني شش هزار ساله مانند ايران باشند. بنابراين ايراد و اعتراض ما، تنها متوجه سياست هاي اسلام ستيزانه «صداي امريکا» نيست، بلکه در واقع به سياست هاي اسلام ستيزانه دولت امريکا است.

ما دامن زدن به اختلافات فرقه يي، مذهبي و قومي را در تعارض با منافع و مصالح ملي کشورمان ارزيابي مي کنيم. خرد سياسي و تجربه تاريخي حداقل يکصد سال گذشته اين سرزمين، حکم مي کند که تنها با تغيير حکومت ها فرآيند تحقق دموکراسي تقويت نمي شود و از اين رو مخالفت و اعتراض ما به سياست ها و عملکرد حاکمان جمهوري اسلامي ايران به اين معنا يا با اين هدف نيست که آنها با هر وسيله ممکن بروند و گروه ديگري بر سر کار بيايد. هدف ما تحقق حقوق و آزادي هاي اساسي ملت مان و حفظ استقلال کشورمان است که اصيل ترين آرمان هاي انقلاب جنبش مشروطه و جنبش ملي شدن صنعت نفت ايران و انقلاب اسلامي 1357 نيز بوده است.

دوم؛ عدم رعايت بي طرفي

يک رسانه جمعي نبايد در پخش اطلاعات و ارائه خدمات خبري به مخاطبانش به ابزاري براي تسويه حساب هاي فردي و گروهي تبديل شود. متاسفانه در کارنامه برنامه سازان «صداي امريکا» بارها ديده شده است که آرا و مواضع سياسي افرادي را عليه افراد و گروه هاي ديگر به طور يکسويه منتشر کرده است، بي آنکه بيانگر دفاعيات يا اعلام نظرهاي طرف مقابل باشند يا حتي فرد مدعي را ملزم به ارائه سند و مدرک کنند. به عنوان نمونه چندي پيش در «صداي امريکا» گفته شد که مهندس بازرگان شخصاً دستور بستن دانشگاه ها را صادر کرده بود. اين يک ادعاي بي پايه است و هيچ حقيقتي در آن وجود ندارد. مصاحبه شونده محترم در آن برنامه در زمره کساني است که از آغاز نسبت به مهندس بازرگان و دولت موقت نظر موافق و مثبتي نداشت. البته مخالف بازرگان بودن قابل درک است ولي تحريف تاريخ چرا؟ اين مدعي اگر واقعاً سندي براي اثبات ادعايش دارد آن را منتشر کند.

نمونه ديگر پخش کردن ادعاها و ناسزاهاي برخي از هواداران «پهلوي ها» در مورد اعدام تيمسار رحيمي فرماندار نظامي تهران در روزهاي انقلاب است. اگر صداي امريکا لازم ديده است نظرات و مواضع مخدوش و ساختگي يک گروه سياسي را پيرامون رويدادي تاريخي منتشر کند بي طرفي و انصاف در اطلاع رساني به مخاطبان حکم مي کند که توضيحات کسي را که به ناحق مورد زشت ترين حملات و در واقع ترور شخصيت قرار گرفته است، براي شنوندگان و بينندگان برنامه هايش پخش کند و داوري نهايي را به صاحبان اصلي کشورمان يعني ملت ايران واگذارد. تبديل يک رسانه خبري به ابزار تسويه حساب هاي سياسي شخصي يا گروهي موجب بي اعتباري آن رسانه مي شود. بديهي است که براي رسانه يي با امکانات صداي امريکا حتي چنانچه فرد مورد توهين حاضر به مصاحبه مستقيم با آن رسانه نباشد، به جهت روشن ساختن برخي ابهامات تاريخي، بسيار آسان است که به طور غيرمستقيم و البته منصفانه پاسخ هاي فرد را از ساير منابع تهيه کند و در اختيار مخاطبان خود قرار دهد و در اين موارد نيز تاکنون توضيحات فراواني از سوي اينجانب ارائه شده است.پخش گزارش هاي ساختگي که پايه آنها بر دروغ و تهمت بنا نهاده شده باشد سودي به حال سازندگان و پخش کنندگان آنها ندارد. يک ضرب المثل فارسي مي گويد؛ «چراغ کذب را نبود فروغي.» اگر قرار بود که کسي يا گروهي با دروغگويي، تهمت و پرونده سازي به جايي مي رسيد يا بقاي قدرتي تضمين مي شد، تاريخ شاهد فروپاشي و نابودي هيچ يک از نظام هاي استبدادي مدعي مردم محوري نبود. کساني که خود را «پهلوي طلب» مي دانند و نه «مشروطه خواه»، در قبال اعتراف محمدرضا شاه که خطاب به مردم ايران گفت «صداي انقلاب تان را شنيدم»، چه پاسخي دارند. اما گويي اين مدعيان هنوز آن را نشنيده اند و باور نکرده اند.

واقع امر آن است انقلاب را که مبتني بر خواست ملي اکثريت مطلق ايرانيان و ناشي از مشکلات نظام پهلوي و بحران هاي عميق سياسي، اجتماعي و حتي اقتصادي آن دوران بود، نمي توان زير سوال برد. اينکه از ياد ببريم يا بي توجه باشيم که عملکرد حاکميت در نظام سابق چه بود و حتي شاه برخلاف نص قانون اساسي مشروطه حکومت مي کرد و نه سلطنت و مجالس شوراي ملي فرمايشي ايجاد مي کرد، تشکيلات مخوف ساواک مستقيماً زير نظر ايشان اداره مي شد و هر صداي مخالفي را درهم مي شکست و سرکوب مي کرد و صدها معضل ديگر که بحث جداگانه يي را مي طلبد، امروز نه تنها دردي از طرفداران نظام پهلوي را حل نمي کند که ملت ايران را از دستيابي به حقايق مسلم تاريخي بازمي دارد و چنانچه تاريخ را چراغ راه آيندگان بدانيم، با لاپوشاني مشکلات گذشته و توجيه حاکميتي که تا بدان جا فاسد بود و خودکامگي روا داشت که ملت ايران را يکپارچه عليه خود برانگيخت، ملت ايران را در تاريکي و ناآگاهي قرار داده که بديهي است که اين مشي برخلاف مصالح و منافع ملي ايران است.

چنين رفتارهايي از سوي «صداي امريکا» ممکن است موجب جلب توجه برخي از افراد شود و دل خيلي از دردمندان و معترضان را به اصطلاح خنک کند. اما در درازمدت محصولي در راستاي منافع ملي، تقويت فرآيند دموکراسي و تحقق حقوق و آزادي هاي اساسي ملت ما نخواهد داشت

It is common for the Iranian self proclaimed "intellectuals" (AKA: Rowshanfekr) to point out tanaghozat (AKA: contradictions) in other's speech. I wore my intellectual hat when reading his response and I wonder if you also see a massive amount of contradictions in Yazdi's response. For example he has problem with VOA's reporting policies (شيوه اطلاع رساني) which involves discrediting Islam ( اسلام ستيز) and lack of objective reporting (عدم رعايت بي طرفي) and then goes further by saying that he dislikes the carrying of other opposition views, namely purist monarchists and constitutional monarchists who have criticized Yazdi for his deep involvement during the establishment of Islamic Republic, and "coincidently" he was at close proximity to people who were executed and some dismembered. And then he uses words such as SAVAK and absolute historical truths (حقايق مسلم تاريخي) which are resounding words for the ears of a certain salivating western geocentrics. I say, Mr. Yazdi, you are beating around the bush, Iranians demand justice and justce involves a lot of questioning and a lot of answering, so get ready.

By the way is any Iranian news reporters or individuals going to be present at the Columbia forum? Would he answer any questions? Or would he just sulk and slam them in an article the next day.

The following petition asks for the arrest and prosecution of Dr. Ebrahim Yazdi for his role in the summary trial, execution and mistreatment of detainees at the onset of the Islamic revolution in Iran. In light of the laws of the United States which consider all suspects innocent until proven guilty, there is plenty of room to weigh the extent of Dr. Ebrahim Yazdi's role and actions. The nation of Iran, and foremost the innocent families of the victims of the Islamic Republic must one day be answered by such an influential revolutionary persona as Dr. Yazdi who will enter the USA this month to seek medical treatment and also take part at a Columbia University panel called: US-Iranian Relations since 1953 and Prospects for the Post Bush Era Date: March 28, 2008 from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm EDT

On Friday March 14th of 2008, another illusion of an elections is being orchestrated by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The international media will undoubtedly carry some news and images of the event, although I can assure you there will not be any serious questions asked, by the likes of CNN, BBC, Reuters, Associated Press and the rest of the circus pundits, since the answers are clear, the Islamic regime has been accepted by the world economic and political powers as a rational partner. Why would the Islamic ruling regime on purpose want to cook up its elections? Why must it so skillfully vet candidates and install its favorite proteges into official positions? Why does the Islamic government so brutally stifles the freedoms of the inhabitants of one of the most natural resource rich countries, in accordance with millennia old rotting Islamic thought? The clique running the government of Iran cannot possibly be entirely irrational! Here I will try to prove, in fact the Islamic Republic is acting rationally in entirety as a result of its economic and demographic realities.

In the world of economics, there is a concept called the "rentier effect", this idea explained, gives another reason why elections by governments as the Islamic Republic of Iran is democratically meaningless and redundant. Rentier in itself stands for: a rent receiving entity. The rentier effect finds a fundamental relationship between state run oil industries and barriers to democratization. In such countries a government relies to a large degree and sometimes almost completely on oil revenues for its budgetary needs, relying less on its citizens' taxes to run the government. One might say this can be a good thing: less pressure on people to meet the government budget with their hard earned money in form of taxes, but in such economies, democratizing elements of free trade diminish or disappear. There is less incentive for a "rentier state" to help its citizens increase efficiencies of trade through regulation or deregulation, and no urgent need to encourage an increase in personal wealth which would positively effects tax revenues. On the other hand this government has a huge incentive to increase its main source of oil income without attracting opposition from its citizens. Such governments kept unchecked, usurp the wealth of the people and would want to sell the future income from the same resources, as soon as possible. In general governments that hold absolute legal and sole property rights to the country's resources such as the government of the Islamic Republic and the likes such as Libya, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and etc. do not need their people except for defense or the day to day operations of the government, such as stifling dissent and preservation of status quo. Such countries might as well be empty spans of unpopulated deserts, decorated with pumps and pipelines which deliver crude oil to savvy foreign clients, as efficiently as possible. What is interesting is that the oil revenues collected by the government is calculated as part of the per capita GNP income by international organizations such as the IMF and the World Bank, while that money is being used mainly on the security apparatus to keep the same individual in check. In reality a "rentier state" acts very similar to a colonial occupier with every reason to weaken or eliminate its existential threats.

On the day after the Islamic Majles (Parliament) elections of March 14th, we may see a different make up of candidates win, perhaps more reformists, or we may be presented surrealistically but entirely possibly, with the exact same candidates as the previous term. The bottom line is that the policies of the Islamic regime ruling Iran, will be evolving along the lines of assuring the survival of the establishment that has been in place for almost thirty years, serving the same economic interests. This, I say is rational, they are not totally crazy.

There is hope for the future but it depends on what we do today, so take action, and start by boycotting the Islamic Republic, and expose their evil existence for all to see.

Well if you could give the SOAS Administration the benefit of the doubt last year, a repeat of the same "symposium" makes it impossible and cretinous to do so this year. This event must be exposed by all means, a testament that the western world is appeasing and condoning such fundamentalist and violent movements. I wonder if there is going to be a show at SOAS showing the crimes committed by the glorious Islamic revolutionaries at its birth on 22nd day of Iranian month of Bahman 1357.

The judicial and extra-judicial murders and violence under this presidency is no surprise, as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been proven to have had a direct role in committing mass atrocities since the early days of Khomeini's sack of Iran. In light of the upcoming parliamentary elections, this trend of violent behavior is simply a recurring attempt to keep the population under mounting pressure and in check while presenting to the international community a process involving elections. Vetting and disqualification of the candidates is simply a public relations ploy to pretend to a sophisticated democratic electoral process. The graphic violence is part of Islamic regime's internal political campaign. The population of Iranians are being pushed in the corner by a campaign of violence and poverty in order to publicly submit to a slightly lesser evil mask of the same Islamic hierarchy. Nuances of Khatami's first election campaign in 1997 are again in the air, when people desperately prayed for Khatami to become the president compared to the hardliner Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri. And so now we have a hardliner: Ahmadinejad in place after Khatami, proving that the Islamic regime has as all dictatorial ruling classes, only one objective, of preserving the status quo by any means, and undoubtedly they are extremely good at this game. Is the News and Public Relations community again getting into position to make the world believe that Iranians have a choice in the election of the government ruling Iran? If so then we have to admit that the international community has decided to accept the Islamic Republic against the aspiration and wishes of almost all the people of Iran. If this assessment turns out to be true then this is a very sad and dark age with terrible repercussions.

A recent deluge of revisionist media blitz in support of the Islamic regime, on Iranian satellite TV, accompanied by unusually disproportionate number of forum posts have caught my interest and attention. On Iranian satellite TV (Channel One) I have seen commentary from popular talking heads offering “facts” blaming the crimes being committed today against Iranians as a result of policies more than twenty-nine years ago. It is without any shame that it is said: today's judicial amputations, poverty, prostitution and etc. are the Shah's fault. On TV channels (Pars TV) which were a few years ago sworn enemies of the Islamic Regime and nationalistic advocates, now programs air that have renamed the Persian Gulf. This type of propaganda has worked very well in the past for the Islamic regime and its masters and cronies. Needless to say that Ahmadinejad vowed to bring the Iranian satellite TV to its knees, the result is disturbing. On the comments section of Iranian.com where countless number of user feedback is deleted each day we see an unusually large number of comments in support of such hated characters as Khomeini. In the past we have faced media attacks by international media sources, dehumanizing Iranians and making viewers believe that the Islamic theocracy is the representative of the people of Iran. But the infiltration of supposedly exiled and dissident radio and TV, and the cooking up of Internet forums and comments sections is a new frontier that need to be addressed and exposed. So it is up to each individual to expose the media and reflect the events. Our numbers alone will drown them and the truth will be told.

Douglas Johnston, head of the "below the radar" International Center for Religion and Diplomacy says: "...The key to engaging Iran is religion..." and "...a peace game..." would work out with Iran "...if Rafsanjani were to win the (presidential) election..." in 2005

Mr. Johnston seems to have differentiated between the Iranian people and the Iranian government by presenting the people as void of needs for justice, human rights, dignity, freedom, economic stability, a future and....

How are we going to get Jimmy Carter's attention? He holds the prestigious position of a former president of the United States allowing him to jet set around the globe, apparently promoting human rights and democracy for the past three decades. The Iranian people deserve an answer, it was on his clock that Iran was plunged into its darkest time. He needs to tell the Iranians what really happened to America's position towards Iran. Now Jimmy Carter refuses categorically to speak to any Iranian or Iranian journalist about Iran. I believe it is time for us to hear his side of the story, there are numerous great Iranian journalists with integrity who would give him a fair chance, I can think of Zia Atabai or Ali Reza Meibodi who would give Carter a fair platform to tell his side of the story. Otherwise, the least the Iranian youth need is an expression of sympathy or acknowledgment of the attrocities of the Islamic Republic.

On Sunday it has been reported in the restive province of Zahedan, Iran, five men were charged with "acting against God" and "corruption upon this Earth". They were punished by the amputation of their right hands and their left feet. The charge of "acting against God" and "corruption upon Earth" (or better known in Iran's Islamic court system as"Mohareb ba Khoda" and "Mofsed O Fel Arz") usually carries a death sentence, but this slightly lighter punishment is obviously used to send a subtle warning to the masses. This is a continuation of last year's graphic and barbaric punishments imposed on all types of Iranians, this January of 2008 the public displays have gone into a new phase with the unprecedented mass dismemberments.

How is it that the NIE’s findings coincide with the crowning of Rafsanjani as the head of the powerful Expediency Council? Having witnessed the findings as an act of official complacency towards the Islamic Republic of Iran makes me wonder. What has at this point caused such an authoritative move in viewing the theocracy? It is interesting that the first signs of the Estimate and the establishment's installation of Rafsanjani as the head of the most powerful executive body has led to a further expansion of crack down on every expression of dissent in Iran. In the late 1990’s we witnessed killings ordered by Khamenei and Rafsanjani, planned by Ali Fallahian and executed by Saeed Emami against voices of discontent. Since Rafsanjani’s role became official again we have seen a new wave of perverse crackdown on women, students and political activists. At this new stage of struggle, Iranian freedom fighters must realize they stand alone against the Islamic regime, the same regime which legitimized terrorism worldwide, destroyed the fabric of Iranian society and dismantled freedoms kept sacred by every human being. It is important to remain skeptical to the rhetoric of “Regime Change” and its evolving aberrations going forward and back in time. We just witnessed a major change in Pakistan at the flip of the fingers of the powers to be and there were no NIEs to justify the positions taken. How is it that the Islamic Republic of Iran has remained immune in face of all its atrocities for the past twenty eight years? My only assumption is that there is a powerful faction in the West that is the regime's master. Inexistence of rights and the suffering of Iranian people is not a factor for them to consider. Unfortunately the civilized world will have to wait for the sad results of such political experiments until it can come up with the resolve to take a concrete decision and truly support the Iranian people in its epic struggle to achieve freedom from theocratic totalitarianism. I tried to do my best in translating the video and in the process I realized this video is highly edited, the video is not in sync with Ahmadinejad and his voice is also edited, it cuts and pastes all the time. My question is what is the source for the video? is it edited by the Islamic Republic or others? Is this just another snippet of Ahmadinejad? He speaks like a clown without editing anyway. But it would be interesting to find out what the purpose of the speech and the true purpose of the editor is. It is interesting that the Video is also airing on Iranian satellite TV.

I am amazed, some people under the name of politicians give such a crooked view of our situation, they say oh wow, look they are in it together, they will be dangerous, they are going to take over, what will happen, they tell people if they come they will take your house, they will take your money and they will take your wife and children. In New York itself, this last year when we went to New York, they started a whole caravan of cars for us, the security is very heavy for us there, and they have the same amount of security for us as their own president. Twenty, thirty cars start driving, with all these black cars, and they obviously do this to put fear in peoples' hearts, with black cars. And it is interesting because we do not drive more than five or ten minutes from the United Nations, usually we just drive a couple of blocks and intersections, during this time people stand on the sidewalks and they look in to the cars and for one second they see us and immediately do this (lift their arm up and show their fist and then the peace sign) just like this. And to prove it there was a two or three year old in someone’s friend's arms and was brought to me and the child was asked who is this, pointing to me, and they do not even speak any language other than Spanish, and the child answered: “He is Mahmoud, he is Mahmoud”

Iranian people are being mauled by the Islamic Regime while the western world tries to negotiate and then ponders the regime's actions and rhetoric. While the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher is missed for her mantra: "never ever negotiate with terrorists".

To attack Iran without targeting and destroying the Islamic Regime is as mindless as begging the regime to change its behavior. Domestically in Iran, an incalculable human toll mounts as the days of the regime pass the world by. The influence of the Ayatollahs has grown internationally by their direct and covert forces fueled by petro-wealth. For years they have aided violent acts of terror and now openly fund militias in Lebanon. They have conducted operations assassinating Iranian opposition members in Austria, Germany, UK, France, USA, Italy, Turkey and the Philippines... Currently with an unprecedented savage crackdown of the population, the Ayatollahs are also laying their bets that any military action against them may be harmful to them but survivable. The Ayatollahs running the Islamic Republic would care less if the country was attacked and all the nuclear facilities and IRGC leveled, as long as there will be enough infrastructure to savagely destroy any popular uprising. The SAVAMA is capable of this. The Ayatollahs have calculated and do not mind if their objective is set back ten years, better yet, twenty years, as long as they remain in power. It is a better deal to be guaranteed survival and authority than being removed permanently. Their best and only friend has been and is time, they love to wait while administrations switch in the rest of the world. In the future, history and the world would not forgive contemporary decision makers if the crucial moment is sacrificed and the Iranian people are not released from the claws of the Islamic Theocracy and given their natural rights to freedom.

What was all that brouhaha about black listing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a terrorist organization? I believe, the West needed to help position an actor within the Islamic regime who is capable of balancing the extreme elements while allowing the improvement of geopolitics for the major players' benefit. The IRGC helps secure the existence of the hard-line faction of the regime's hierarchy, as well as facilitates most of its business transactions. By threatening the existence of this apparatus which is the main artery of the supreme leader's faction, the West calculated and received a moderating response. Grand Ayatollah Khamenei was put in the corner and pushed to anoint Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani as the head of the most powerful clerical body in the Islamic regime: Assembly of Experts (مجلس خبرگان رهبری, Majles-e-Khobregan). It is also very interesting that a deal was allegedly foiled at the same time in California to send 100,000 submachine guns to aid Rafsanjani's faction counter Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presidency.

Survival of the theocratic establishment is a vital priority to Rafsanjani, not due to any dogma, it is no secret that Mr. Rafsanjani has amassed a huge fortune since 1979 reaping some of the largest stakes from the revolutionary confiscations of private property, including industrial and agricultural holdings. Now he controls imports of automobiles as well as assembles Daewoo cars in Iran. He exports agricultural products including the highly prized pistachios, topping more than $400 Million in 2003. He owns his own airliner called Mahan Air with a fleet of 27 mostly Airbus and Boeing passenger jets. Kish Island, the Persian Gulf's most popular island destination is also controlled by Rafsanjani and his family, to just name a few of his business holdings.

Rafsanjani is acting as a safety valve, he has been a sweetheart of the the west for a longtime and the regime considers him indispensable, he is a deal maker who does not tolerate any opposition to the "grand plan" at hand. But most importantly, he is a man with many trusted and powerful friends in office around the globe.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, established on the basis of religious laws has been campaigning with a wave of public executions across the country in the past few months. This wave of executions is one of many witnessed since the inception of the Islamic theocracy. At its beginnings in 1979 the enemies of the “revolution” were executed by the hundreds everyday and the campaign of deaths continued for two years until the Islamic regime solidified its ruling apparatus. The campaign of death continued in many stages although it was generally swayed from the public view during the years of Iran-Iraq war, when scores of people were bussed by force to the fronts and were eventually killed on minefields or in dangerous operations. No Iranian has been immune to the version of Islamic justice practiced in Iran, in fact one can with confidence say that Islamic justice is carried equally amongst all the population, but the Iranian youth seems to receive the biggest brunt of it. I recall a boy in my school in the early years of the revolution who had been a rebellious student and had to repeat many grades, and was supposed to be in high school instead of middle school. He seemed generally unhappy, I often saw him walking alone in his brown suede jacket and was often in trouble with his teachers. One day he was caught by the school's government assigned minder (these officials were called Omoor-e Tarbiati Moallem, translated to Matters of Obedience Trainer). He was caught in a corridor writing on a picture of Ayatollah Khomeini the word “Pooch” (translates to: meaningless, empty or void of substance). This was then and is now considered to be a huge insult and even a blasphemy by the Islamist fanatics. By severely punishing the boy, the Omoor-e Tarbiati zealot was able to raise his already highly fanatic credentials. The boy who was probably around 15 or 16 years old was put in custody and tortured, his family were also put under huge pressure for raising a son with anti revolutionary sentiments.

Later that year the Omoor-Tarbiati zealot gave a passionate speech to each classroom giving us the news of the boy's martyrdom. The death did not occur in a prison, the zealot continued, the boy had recanted and had become a believer of the revered Imam Khomeini. He had wanted to prove his loyalty by volunteering to go to fight at the war front where he became a martyr of Iran-Iraq's bloody war. I still remember the chilling affect that the announcement made on me. All students seemed to have somehow stopped breathing, there was not a pen that dropped throughout the zealot's sermon like session. This is the way a theocracy conducts its business even in classrooms. The appetite of the regime for death has not subsided since. Death is what it feeds from and there is no one and nothing that the monstrous apparatus will relinquish in its quest for more power.

After its almost 28 years campaign, the regime has no qualms about executions. Today it performs many in public. It has no problem with forcing confessions from Dr. Haleh Esfandiari and her likes, it has extracted amazing information from many on the television. If we look a little back to another campaign of fear in the late nineties, there were a series of serial murders across Iran that were eventually linked and proved to be the works of the Islamic government and masterminded by the super powerful clergy: Hojatoleslam Ali Fallahian.The victims were opposition figures, artists, writers, university professors, scientific researchers, businessmen, doctors, students and people from all walks of life who the public had been attracted to inside and outside of Iran. Also in the past few years it is become common to find scores of charred bodies, burnt beyond recognition outside of metropolitan areas. We will probably never know why or how they were murdered. 4.1 million barrels per day of crude oil are the official exports volume of Islamic Republic of Iran according to OPEC. With the current market price of $75 the revenues of the mullah regime add to over $300 million per day, and this figure is only for crude oil exports and not from any other government run exports such as liquefied Natural Gas, mining products and other revenue forms in the form of real production and also shady and illegal activities such as smuggling of contrabands internationally. Yet the economy of Iran has been suffering the worse seen since World War One years. During the Iran-Iraq war the economy was in better shape. So what is happening to all the revenues in the Islamic republic’s coffers, estimated to receive monthly inflows of close to $15 billion?

There are reports that the Islamic regime pays four million people, mostly low income women with children between $50 to $60 per month, in exchange for this amount the recipients are required to attend government rallies, Friday prayers sermons, in addition they are minders for their neighborhoods concerning counter revolutionary activities and a number are on call to participate in breaking up pro democracy demonstrations. the total cost of this program could cost upwards of $240 million per month.

Support for foreign movements such as Hezbolah of Lebanon, Palestinian Hamas, Free oil exports to the Syrian government and possibly North Korea. This program could run up to $450 million per month.

The Iranian security and intelligence services known as SAVAMA or VEVAK have reportedly increased operational personnel and infrastructure five folds compared to SAVAK, the Shah's ministry of intelligence still on the tips of the tongues of many western sophists. The budget of running this operation is estimated to be around $300 million per month with estimated personnel of over 150,000. This does not include other parallel intelligence services operated by the Islamic Regime as seen in high gear during the Khatami presidency.

The costs of the nuclear program, the military and its weapons’ acquisitions and production, and the corruption involved in the daily running of the government is a behemoth. The government of Ahmadinejad was questioned by the Majlis about his tens of billions of unaccounted spending for the previous year over its approved budget, and the response was: well, previous governments spent a lot of money as well.

So let us ask once more: why do the Iranian people sit still and do not move against the corrupt regime if they truly want freedom? My answer is that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a very advanced dictatorship, a police state probably more sophisticated than any other seen in history. The only objective of the Mullahcracy is to preserve its own existence and ensure its leaders’ very lucrative ride.

The prospect of Iran being attacked by foreign forces makes me sick. How could I wish so desperately for any foreign force to attack my only homeland? However I know for a fact that the Islamic regime is an occupier of my homeland, an unwanted, un-elected, undeserving regime ruling over Iran with brutal force, very much acting like a self righteous alien occupier.

In conclusion I feel the years long procrastination at the UN, IAEA and international community have to come an end. I do not understand why the regime of Iran, devious, criminal at home and abroad, long known and proven to be a terrorist state causing instability everywhere it spreads its claws should deserve a continuous access to the revenues from the oil markets of the world. The Islamic regime could have been suffocated long ago if its oil exports had been embargoed. It is not too late to crush the Islamic republic without having to fire a shot.

Khatami reportedly is planning to raise wild birds and that is the reason for purchasing such a large parcel of land!!! What was the price of the land? In the meantime Mr. Mir Hossein Mousavi a former prime minister of the Islamic republic has hit back and said that the ideals of the Islamic revolution have been forgotten, that Islamic revolution meant to improve people's lives!!! Not diminish and destroy the standards of living. He further explains that "20% of children in Tehran are street children" or homeless. Now I do not know if he is just babbling his leftist ideas which he nourished and developed together with Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, or is he a contender.

While all this happens, Tehran burns. Twenty eight years earlier, before the repulsive Islamic revolution took hold Shahpour Bakhtiar in futility shouted at the podium of the Majlis, he kicked the floor repeatedly with the soles of his shoes and said: "Under our feet is a sea of oil and our people have to make lines to fill up their cars and heat their homes?" That was just a sample of what the Islamic revolution had in stores.

I say we are all paying for not being thankful enough or not thankful at all for the blessings that we had. We did not appreciate what God had given to us and for the past 27 years we are being ruled by the children of Satan.

Hopefully more UN sanctions will be imposed. Sanctions are better than nothing, more sanctions imposed will make times rough for the Ayatollahs, true, but the ones who will suffer will be the people ultimately. We know the lessons of sanctions, it did not work against the governments of North Korea or Cuba for decades. If there is an attack it will be even tougher for the people. But the only solution is covert operations and use of special forces to paralyze the top echelon. Sanctions will enrich the Ayatollahs. Tactical war will enrich arms dealers and the Ayatollahs as it did during Iran-Iraq war and is doing the same in Iraq now. You have to hit the CNS (Central Nervous System). I was sitting on a domestic flight from Tehran when a man sat next to me, a middle aged grizzly Basiji Haj Agha, bearded, scruffy type wearing the usual uniform of the Islamic Republic's armed thuggery. At first I was very scared and was asking myself what the hell is this smelly guy sitting next to me, what have I done wrong, these guys usually have their own special seatings if not their own airplanes, but then I settled in and realized this must be just happening by chance and anyway what could I do now when the plane is about to depart and anyway I have not committed any "crime". Before and after the plane took off I noticed the Haj Agha chit chatting on his mobile phone/walkie-talkie. The flight attendant told him to turn off the phone but the man would every two minutes pick up and say some thing in there. I opened the conversation by asking him if he was going to visit family and he said he was going to visit his factory and will be back in Tehran next day. I asked about his factory and eventually led to him mentioning that he was a Sardar (General) of the Pasdaran and dealt with narcotics smuggling, now I do not know if he was saying the truth for a fact, but he was wearing uniform and by his looks I could imagine he had no problem killing a few infidels for the day. I started talking about the misery of addiction I see everyday on streets and how many friends and relatives I know who are suffering from addiction and that families are being torn and destroyed by drugs. He told me everyday the problem is getting worse and started laying the blame on the wealthier parts of the population that started making Cocaine fashionable and now there is a huge Crack problem across Iran, and then there is Methamphetamine known as (Shisheh) beginning to make an impact and of course heroin and opium is nothing new. I asked him what is being done to stop the flow of drugs and fix the problem, he said nothing can be done. He explained that it happens every week that they confiscate a trailer truck filled with heroin and opium in the east of the country, typically in Zahedan where they impound the vehicle and imprison the driver and then the following week they confiscate the same trailer with the same cargo on the western border of Iran, typically Bazargan border crossing to turkey. He was very comfortable to say that the government is accommodating the drug trade and he blamed the huge demand in Western Europe for the problem in Iran, he said the reason drugs are so cheap in Iran is that the drug traffickers are financing the transportation of the drugs to Europe, by selling parts of the shipments cheap in order to give a cut to officials or people in powerful positions who can pull strings. The Haj Agha continued to chat on his phone despite many warning from flight attendants and after we landed I said goodbye to the Haj Agha who seemed to like the conversation with me and asked for my phone number (this made me comically feel uncomfortable in many ways), of course I gave him a number where he could not reach me and when we got off the plane there were couple of other Haj Aghas waiting for him at the foot of the plane and he disapeared into the crowd. I hope he cannot find me, I was not in my assigned seat, just as a precaution I will have a supply of Vaseline close by.
Afterwards I thought hard if I should publish this post or not. I felt the impulse to do so just to open a window although limited it may be into the way things work in Iran, how we have regressed and how helpless the people are under a corrupt and totalitarian regime that has no aim than the hateful destruction of a nation and of families and to enrich themselves by any means. Now Iran has the highest rate of addiction in the world, there are official government reports of four million addicts when independent reports put it close to twenty million addicts and regular drug users in Iran, HIV infection is spreading like a wild fire. I think it is about time an investigation is done of the Iranian clerical establishment and its involvement in the narcotics trafficking. It has been said that the ubiquitous Rafsanjani family and also Ayatollah Vaez-Tabasi or otherwise know as the King of Khorasan are deeply involved in the drug trade, which not only includes trafficking and production in Iran, it also may very likely include production in parts of Afghanistan. Members of these drug cartels must be prosecuted and punished for crimes against humanity.

Iranian youth are being paraded and tortured publicly. The above photo was taken by Pars News photographer who was invited to the torture parade in order to photograph and disseminate the images all across Iran and the world. The images at the top show a young man with Marlon Brando looks and his free spirit shown by his Colombia football jersey and long hair, being pushed, thrown on the ground and his forehead getting bloodied in order to force him to put a device in his mouth which is used in toilets to wash excrement. The image below shows a clean cut man with western style shirt and trousers being subject to similar humiliations in front of photojournalists and the public on the streets of Tehran. There are people in the west who still say: "Why do the Iranian people not revolt against the regime?" I want to ask these people: When will western oil companies stop buying oil from the Ayatollahs and when will your governments stop making deals under the table with the Islamic regime? Islamic republic of Iran is the most advanced dictatorship in history. My point is that majority of the laws, perhaps 95% are created for the benefit of POWERFUL special interest. It is a sham used by lawmakers to for their own means and ends which is their own political survival at the expense of the INDIVIDUAL. Here the new law gives the police and insurance companies rights to impound your private property until you pay both institutions to give your private property back, and therefore the new law gives away the individual's rights to private property. Now, I have insurance on my cars, but should there be a law made or right given to an individual to self-insure private property as an alternative to buying from an oligopoly of insurance companies and seizure by the police? I have been thinking about that for all my insurance purposes, for my home, health and auto in the face of multiple digit increase of insurance fees and the lack of claims or losses. Do I think fewer laws are better? No, but many bad laws are worse; it is best to have few good laws.

Understanding the antagonist - Former revolutionaries

There are strong feelings ingrained that I often have to harness when a former supporter of Khomeini or a "communist" (Tudehi) insists that the current situation in Iran is not only better, it is much better than before the Islamic repulsive revolution. Logic seems to defy what the former revolutionaries so strongly believe, they seem to want to justify their actions by making the Islamic Repulsive Regime the lesser of the evil compared to the Shah's regime. Or perhaps they do not want to let go of the past.

I do not want to become a defender of the previous regime, because I was very young when it was toppled, but it seems very clear that economically, socially, legally, morally, politically, internationally Iran has been in a constant decline since 1979. In addition there have been over a million and a half (perhaps two million) killed in war, by execution and death squads, the Islamic regimes brutal force has violated every Iranian family. Drug addiction is past epidemic and a tool by the Ayatollahs to pacify and tranquilize the masses. Draconian laws and arbitrary rules regulate every part of the peoples’ daily lives.

Is there any comparison? As a friend reminded me of the expression: "Looti be in sadegi nemibazeh" (translation: Wise-guys are incapable of accepting to have lost the game). I have pity but do not hate for the former revolutionaries who were so miserably fooled and mistaken. I will never agree with them on the notion that the revolution was hijacked, that its purpose was different than its results. Their legacy and that of the Islamic revolution is clear. Their irresponsible actions and slogans were made deliriously because of shortcomings in circumstances. A few I have engaged in discussions with have one ultimate answer: their actions in the late Seventies and early days of the revolution were "the biggest mistakes" they made in their lives. But some bitterly and militantly hold on to their dark past that it is impossible for them to utter a word coherently. And of course there is the ones who are just using the situation to their advantage for money or power, the morally questionable, those who turned and would turn in their brothers and sisters to the executioners. I wonder why some of these Tudehis or devout Mohammedans have chosen Western countries as their homes living and thriving for the ultimate Western lifestyles.

I want to know who is the antagonist if one ends up living and acting so contradictory to ones dearest beliefs?

Today on the radio (NPR) the news announcer said in regards to the arrest of a Cuban terrorist in the USA: "A controversial anti-Castro activist is now in custody in Miami"
It was referring to Luis Posada Carilles who blew up a Cuban passenger plane with around seventy civilians, and was also involved in bombing several hotels in Cuba which killed tourists. I agree, Fidel Castro is an oppressor and a dictator but the fellow who blew up an airliner should be referred to and treated like a terrorist rather than a controversial anti-Castro activist. If a Middle Eastern man sneezes he is called a terrorist.

What is the difference between belief and conviction? There are too many people who believe in smooth operator charlatans: Khomeini, Hitler, Mohammad, Jesus..... it takes a lot of skills to turn a lot of people into believers. If you continue brainstorming one person over and over with certain lies then you make a believer. When you fool a lot of people into believing you then the believers have a conviction. I think conviction requires a support group of like-minded people.
